CYDC-BC Initiative Start-up Funds

The Community Youth Development Coalition of B.C. is pleased to announce the launch of a new granting process that will provide up to $30,000 in Initiative Start-up Funds to qualifying community-based organizations in British Columbia who are in the process of developing a Community Youth Development initiative.

If your organization:

  • Is located in British Columbia ,
  • Has a youth advisory committee,
  • Has a plan to build a sustainable youth-driven initiative,
  • Wants to see youth in your community thrive,
  • …then CYDC-BC Community Youth Development Initiative Start-up Funds may be for you.

    Community Youth Development initiatives will be assessed using the following criteria:

  • Does your application demonstrate a youth driven process?
  • Does your application demonstrate a plan for sustainability?(economic, community and social)
  • Does your application demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to other Community Youth Development principles?
  • Does your community demonstrate a need for or strength in addressing youth concerns?

Community Youth Development principles include the following:

  1. CYD initiatives seek to provide meaningful youth engagement.
  2. CYD initiatives strive for economic, social, and community self-sustainability in order to provide long term meaningful youth engagement.
  3. CYD initiatives are universal.
    • Focusing on all youth.
    • Seeking broad sectoral participation and commitment.
    • Working on the broader goals of youth development.
  4. CYD initiatives take a strength-based approach by:
    • Recognizing and building upon existing strengths.
    • Applying strengths to overcome needs and build capacity.
  5. CYD initiatives focus on providing the settings that strengthen assets and facilitate supportive, empowering and enduring relationships.
  6. CYD initiatives focus on youth development, supporting youth’s own capacity to make healthy transitions to adulthood.
    1. skill and competency building
    2. empowerment
    3. strong relationships with adults and peers
  7. CYD initiatives focus on community development where youth and community-wide partnerships enhance both youth development and the collaborative capacities of community to meet the needs of its youth.

Deadline for submitting a Letter of Intent to Apply is November 17th, 2006. The application deadline for spring 2007 funding is January 19th, 2007.
